HKHC : NEWSLETTER #2

Registration

Thanks to everyone who has registered their interest to play in 2018.

We have great numbers for the U18 girls and Ministicks girls, but could always do with some extra players in our other teams. If you know of players who haven’t registered yet or who may be interested, please log on to our website  or message us through our Facebook page.

Annual General Meeting

Thanks to everyone who attended, there were some important decisions made and a copy of the minutes have been emailed to everyone.

We would like to congratulate and thank our

Petrina Kennett – Vice President
Claire Ingram – Club Captain
Anna Pethig – Secretary

and also our returning committee members: Ann Harper, Tracy Alexander, Matthew Wright, Lee-Anne Oram, Claire Murray, Rachelle Crause and our new members Kerry Twose and Ben Sleeman.

We are still looking for a treasurer so please contact the club if you feel you have the skills to help us out.

Junior Preseason Skills

The first session was held at Kaiapoi High School Turf on Sunday morning with a great turnout. It was fantastic to see so many children enthusiastic to play hockey. Come on down to the final two sessions on Sunday 18th and 25th March at 10am. Hockey sticks can be provided, we do ask that children bring a mouthguard, shin pads and sneakers. Free of charge for Yrs1-8.

HKHC v Rangiora

Hinemoa-Kaiapoi Hockey Club and Rangiora Hockey club held their first pre-season match last Saturday. It was a great turn-out from our club, and although our 4 guys were well outnumbered they were much appreciated as we took on a Rangiora team that was mainly men.   Fast and furious with some great skills shown, it was a very even match, with the 2-2 draw a great result.   Nothing like a bar-b-que and beer to finish a fun day of hockey!

Men’s Super 6’s

Our men line up in the South Island Super six tournament at Nunweek Park this weekend.  Come down and cheer them on!

Friday 7.30pm V Hornby
Saturday 9.30am V Malvern
11.30am V Harewood
2pm– Pool ranking matches
4pm – Semi finals

HKHC : NEWSLETTER #1

Welcome to 2018 with the Hinemoa-Kaiapoi Hockey Club!

Registration

Registrations for the 2018 are now open on the HKHC website. We have decided due to the large number of online registrations in 2017, that this will be our sole way of registering for this season.

Log on to our website: www.kaiapoihockey.co.nz and click on the registration button at the top of the page to register your interest now.

As in 2017, registration will only be complete when a deposit of $50 for Junior/U18, or $100 for Senior members (a down payment on your fees) is made to the club account.

Kaiapoi Hockey Club - Bank: Westpac - A/C: 031702 0228944 00 - Reference: (enter your Surname + Grade playing)

 Potential Start Dates

U18 boys will be following the format the U18 girls had in the 2017 season – this means they are now in the senior grades which run from the week of 8th April – 26th August. Mid-week open senior team competitions run from the week of 9th April – 28th August.

Junior grades usually start the first week of the second term (to be confirmed)

 Annual General Meeting

Our AGM for 2018 is to be held on Sunday 4th March 10am at our clubrooms on Smith St, Kaiapoi.

 Everyone is welcome!

As usual we are always looking for keen people to lend a hand in the running of our club and there is a changing of a few of the key positions this year. We are on the look-out for a new Treasurer, so if you have any skills with numbers and money and would be able to help out, please contact the club.

Junior Preseason Skills

We are looking at holding a few preseason skills training sessions for primary and intermediate school aged children at our Kaiapoi High School turf. If your child is keen for a run around, or has a friend that may be interested in playing this year, this would be an ideal time to have a go!  (Potential dates 4th, 11th, 18th March)

Hatch/Match/Dispatch

  • Big congratulations to our MVP for both the Mid-Week Open Women’s Black Team and the Women’s Grass Team – Tish Gillespie who married Beni in a beautiful service in January.

  • Farewell and good luck to senior member Libby Cox who has left to teach at Kapiti College and junior member Lois Duncan who has moved to Wellington with her family.

Feel free to contact Claire on clingram75@gmail.com if you have information that you think should be included.

NEED NEW HOCKEY SOCKS?

If you are new to the club, have worn your old socks out or your best mate has pinched them..  then order your new socks today!

PLACE YOUR ORDER NOW! ONLY $15.
Email Lee-Anne on leeanne.oram@me.com  with your name, team and sock size by this Saturday 15th April.

Lee-Anne is organising a bulk order through Stirling Sports Rangiora. As soon as they arrive you will be notified and you can collected and pay for your new socks at the store.

Stirling Sports Rangiora are one of our 2017 Club Supporters – we are also putting together a mouthguard promotion with them so keep an eye out for news on this event coming soon!

Club Subs.

Caroline will email you with subs early next week.  Like last season the club has applied for funding which we will not know if we will get for about a month, so.... the amount for subs will bethe full amount and this will be discounted if the club receives funding.

Social committee.

We have a social committee this year so there will be several opportunities for social events.  We will also run one fundraiser during the season so we would like as much support for that as possible when the time comes!  Please bear in mind this has a direct result on the subs you pay!  New members wanting to join the social committee are always welcome.

Players needed.

We are still SHORT of under 18 boys with 10 registered.  They play on a Friday night so boys can still play another sport on Saturdays.  If you know of anyone who may be keen please get in touch asap!  We have 10 registered so really need another 3-4 but even just one or two would be great.

We also have a large number of girls for our year 7/8 team which is great, but not quite enough for two teams. So, if we can get just a couple more girls then we can make another year 7/8 girls team which would benefit everyone as it would mean more game time for all the girls, so once again, ask around to see if your children have friends who may wish to play.

Umpiring - give it a GO! Free refresher session coming up.

If anyone is interested in umpiring for us then I would be very keen to hear from you.  We are trying to organise an umpiring refresher session at the clubrooms one evening soon which we would like all girls and boys from our under 18 team to attend and anyone else who wants to.  There will be no cost for this and it is a great opportunity to sharpen up your skills or ask those questions you've never quite been sure of.  Umpiring is one area we struggle with in the club, but it doesn't need to be.  If we have enough people who give it a go, then you may only be called upon to do one or two games a season rather than leaving it to the same people all the time AND we will never put you above your comfort level.  If you would like to have a go at umpiring but feel nervous or unsure, there is plenty of support we can put in place for you.

2016 Season Start Dates.

The men's open team kicks off (or should I say hits off) first with a start date of Monday, 4th April, followed closely by the women's mid-week open who begin their season on Tuesday, 5th April.  The 2 women's grass teams start their campaign on Saturday, 9th April.  Next up are the 6 aside and all year 8 and under teams who get their sticks out on 30th April.  Finally, the boys' and girls' under 18 youth teams take to the turf on Friday, 6th May.  Have a great 2016 season everyone!

Kids - "Small-sticks" programme

HKHC runs the 'small sticks' programme which is implemented by Canterbury Hockey Association. It's aimed at those who have never played before and is usually for an hour after school one day a week. The programme concentrates on fun actives which teach the basics of hockey and we always finish with a game.  Contact the club if you want to know more.
